Monday, July 01: HPCS 2013 Welcome Reception - Helsinki Town Hall
hosted by the Helsinki City Mayor
The HPCS conference reception will take place on July 1st from 7:15 to 8:15 PM in the Helsinki Old Town Hall (Vanha Raatihuone, Aleksanterinkatu 20).
The Old Town Hall is located 1.2km from the Hilton Helsinki Strand Hotel and the main location of the conference sessions (map). Due to the short distance, it is possible to walk to the venue. A group will meet in front of the Hilton Hotel right after the end of the day's sessions and we will set out for the Old Town Hall at 7:00PM.
Tuesday, July 02: Guided Bus City Tour -
A guided bus tour of the most important and interesting parts of Helsinki, including the historical center, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, The Uspenski Cathedral, Market Square, the Parliament buildings, Finlandia Hall and the Opera House. Multiple stops. 1.5 hours tour (19:30-21:00).
First-come-First-Serve basis, the first 50 registered.

Wednesday, July 03: HPCS 2013 Banquet Dinner -
Thursday, July 04: Helsinki Sightseeing Cruise –
Depart on a sightseeing cruise. On the cruise you will get to see the most beautiful shorelines in Helsinki and many fabulous sights, including the historic Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, Helsinki Zoo on Korkeasaari Island and the impressive fleet of icebreakers. Along the way you will also hear about Helsinki’s fascinating history.
First-come-First-Serve basis, the first 50 registered.Guided sightseeing Cruise Fee: €56 per person
Various choices of meals and drinks will be available on board (on your own).
Friday, July 05: Full Day Excursions
Event 1: Trip to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress
Depart on a guided tour to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress by public ferry.
Suomenlinna, at the mouth of Helsinki Harbor, is a sea fortress and naval base for the archipelago fleet and was built in the 18th century. It is one of the items on the UNESCO World Heritage List and a major Finnish tourist attraction. Also a Heslinki suburb, it is the home of 850 permanent residents.
A guided walking tour o the Sea Fortress of Suomenlinna gives you an overview of several centuries of Finnish history under Swedish and Russian rule and then as an independent state.
Short time for lunch on your own at Suomenlinna.
Return by ferry to the Market Square where the tour ends. Duration of the tour ca. 4-5 hours.
Prices in a group of 25 - 35 persons. On First-come-first-serve basis.

Event 2: Old Wooden Town of Porvoo Day Tour
A visit to the idyllic town of Porvoo with well-preserved wooden houses. See the red warehouses on the riverbank and the beautiful medieval cathedral.
A town plan from the Middle Ages, the low small houses, picturesque
yards and narrow streets form a historically unique wooden town milieu.
The symbols of Porvoo – the red warehouses on the riverbanks – tell the
story of seafaring and trading.
14.00 The tour ends back at Helsinki city center. Duration ca. 5 hours.
